Nerja marks the eastern end of the Costa del Sol, an hour east of Málaga, where the Sierra Almijara drops to the sea in a run of coves and cliffs. The Balcón de Europa viewpoint, Burriana beach, the protected Maro-Cerro Gordo cliffs and the Nerja caves give it a slower, more traditional character than the resorts to the west, and the white village of Frigiliana sits in the hills above.
