Charco del Canalón (Río Verde, Istán)

The Charco del Canalón is a narrow gorge cut by the Río Verde below Istán, where an old irrigation channel spills over the rock into a deep green pool. The marked Sendero del Charco del Canalón leaves from the village's gardens and follows mostly wide tracks for about 3 km each way with around 280 m of climbing; the first pool is shallow enough for children, the second, under the fall, is deep with steep sides. Wear shoes with grip, as the wet rock is slick, and go in spring or early summer when the river is full.
