Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory at the mouth of the Mediterranean, outside Málaga province and outside the Schengen area, so a passport is required at the La Línea border. It is about 75 km from Marbella and 50 km from Estepona, and most visitors come for the Upper Rock, the Barbary macaques and duty-free shopping on Main Street.
